About MP
BIO / MARY PATTERSON BROOME
I am a comedian, writer and producer. You can find my most current writing on Love You, Hate Your Furniture, my Substack about getting married and having a child later in life.
For six years, I was a sketch comedy writer, on-camera performer and content producer with It’s a Southern Thing, the brand behind “So True, Y'all,” a popular YouTube series about life in the South, and a ton of other comedic content.
Prior to my time with It’s a Southern Thing, I spent over a decade in Los Angeles where I worked as a writer, stand-up comic, producer and agency assistant (along with some other side hustles that are too embarrassing too publicly admit but that I’ve probably written about somewhere).
As a stand-up comic, I toured as both a feature and headliner across North America at clubs, colleges, festivals and casinos, in addition to performing at military bases in the Middle East. I culminated my time in L.A. with the release of “Scott from San Francisco,” a web series I wrote, directed, produced, and starred in.
I was a staff writer for AOL Originals’ Emmy-nominated series Making a Scene with James Franco and WE TV’s Sex Box. I have also been a regular contributor to The Washington Post and Women’s Health Magazine.
Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, I attended college at Wake Forest University (majoring in Political Science with the plan to attend law school, whoops) then moved to Los Angeles after graduation. After 14 years in L.A. and a stint in Birmingham, Alabama, I now reside in Greenville, South Carolina with my husband, daughter and overly affectionate pit bull.
